STAR Conference
2008

Galileo's Legacy Conference

What are Participants' Conferences
Automatic Small Telescope Conference                  Symposium on Photometry                         Robotic Telescope Symposium
Lazy K Bar, Tucson AZ  1988                          Lazy K Bar, Tucson, AZ 1990                             at JPL in California 1991

The STAR 2008 and Galileo's Legacy 2009 astronomy conferences are called "participants’ conferences" because the usual distinctions between organizers and attendees, between speakers and audience are greatly diminished. Participants assist in planning the conference sessions in advance and managing the conferences as they unfold, serve on committees and chair sessions.  High school, community college, and university undergraduate and graduate students interact with researchers renowned  in their field. Funding is sought for a few students. Other participants pay their own way, including registration, but costs are minimize as much as possible, the locations are delightful, and the  conferences can double as a family vacation.

●  Organized by the participants

●  Participants chair sessions and
    staff the panels

●  Dynamic presentations by
    experts in their fields

●  Generous non-session time for
    interactions and relaxation

●  Tours / time off mid-conference

●  Vacation location
